New carpet warranties are just like any other warranty. That means there are many ways to void the warranty by not following exactly the guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
A warranty requirement by all major carpet manufacturers is regular professional cleaning. The frequency of “regular” cleaning can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but is generally between 12 and 18 months. Two of the largest manufacturers, Mohawk and Shaw, require carpets be cleaned at least every 18 and 24 months respectively in order to maintain their warranties.
In addition to maintaining a regular professional cleaning schedule, leading carpet manufacturers require the hot water extraction cleaning method be employed. This method removes the deeply embedded soil and oily dirt that clings to the carpet fibers. Regular cleaning also refreshes the appearance and extends the life of your carpet.
After having your carpets cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner using the correct method and systems, there is only one thing left to do…prove it! Both Mohawk and Shaw require documentation that your carpet was cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. While an invoice will suffice, J. Brightwell Carpet Cleaning provides a Certificate of Professional Cleaning to satisfy this warranty requirement.
Hopefully, you will not have any issues with your new carpet. However, should an issue arise, ensure the manufacturer does not have a reason to deny the warranty claim. Read the warranty, follow the guidelines, and keep it clean!
